http://gnb.scout.com/2/968134.htmlHere is a story about a young talented tight end that went off to college at a younger than normal age. Immediately, due to his talent, he was pushed into a high speed, high profile game at the college level.
Then the bad things start happening. I know most of us have had issues in our lives, especially in our younger lives, that we are not happy about. In my case, I had a incedent where I was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people, and while I tried my best to keep a transgression from occurring, I was unable to keep an offense from happening in which I was arrested for. Now to be fair, all of us got arrested that were involved and while I did not take part in the action, I was charged for the crime all the same.
The point I am attempting to make here is that these things happen. Our justice system is supposed to be based on rehabilitation and giving you a second chance. Quarless was a kid that got into some trouble, under age drinking, marijuana found in his apartment, I do not condone those things, but they could be considered the minor indigressions of youth. If what Kenney is saying is true, then this kid really has my respect, he straightened himself out, got himself on track, paid the price for his sins, and still in the end came out on top.
Until the media gets involved. In the eyes of the law, this kid has paid for his sins, but to the media, he will be a life long convict. I used the term convict loosely, Quarless never spent any time in jail, but you would never know that by some of the coverage he received before and after the draft. With headlines that read "Packers take a risk with TE", you would think that we are looking at the next Laurence Taylor here. Again, assuming what is said in this article is the truth, it could not be further from the truth.
I am a KC Chiefs fan through and through, but nothing says that I cannot be rooting for an individual player on a team. With first hand knowledge of what it is like to be guilty by association, I find myself rooting for this kid and hoping he can make it on the team and be a star player.
Good luck Andrew Quarless!
