I read an article today about how the face of the Chief's will change this off season. I would have to say amen to that as change needs to happen. So in looking at the free agents coming up this season, I was kind of wondering who might be invited to stay next season. Let's take a look and see if you agree with me.
Andy Alleman OG RFA - We traded for this guy from the Dolphins, I would find it hard to believe that we would not at least consider making an offer to him. If he is a guys that Haley likes, then he will stay, if not, then he will be looking for work elsewhere. We need good offensive lineman, this guy is likely not one.
Mike Brown S UFA - I expect Brown to be back. Why? Because Haley thinks Brown is one of the best players in the game! Since he is an older safety, he is not likely to draw too much attention. I expect he will be resigned to a short contract.
Chris Chambers WR UFA - This is a hard call. Chambers certainly has a couple more years in him, he is still fast and can catch the ball most of the time. I think if the Chiefs can make a short term deal of a couple million per year for him, he will stay, otherwise, I think he is gone. He is afterall one of the 22 players off the street that Haley brought in.
Brodie Croyle QB RFA - If a new bargaining agreement is put together, then Croyle becomes unrestricted. Either way, Croyle is not the answer for too many teams so I don't see him going anywhere. I am sure there are some teams out there that could use a good backup QB, including us. If he becomes unrestricted, he might move on, if he remains restricted, then he might stay. I kind of expect a deal to be made to keep him as backup to Cassel. Matt Gutierrez QB RFA - Gutierrez was hand picked by Pioli, unless we draft a young future QB in a later round of the draft, I expect to see Guti back. He is not important enough to be concerned about as I am sure even Thigpen might be available again after the season starts.
Derrick Johnson* ILB RFA - Derrick Johnson is gone. We hardly used him this season it is clear that Haley does not like him or his work ethic. Do not look for an offer to be tendered, he will not be a Chief next year.
Corey Mays* ILB RFA - I would not expect to see Mays back next year either. I think you are going to see Haley and Pioli address the linebacker position in the draft and this new player will likely take Mays' place in the roster.
Ikechuku Ndukwe OT RFA - Another guy that came over in a trade with Miami. This trade by the was for a Chief's pick. He is like Alleman, serviceable in a pinch, but is not the answer. He might be given a contract, but I don't expect to see him on the team next season.
Rudy Niswanger* C RFA - I believe that Niswanger will be back. He was serviceable this season and at worse could be a good backup for us with a replacement.
Ryan O'Callaghan* OG RFA - O'Callaghan will be gone, he barely hung on to a job this season.
Jarrad Page* S RFA _ I expect Page to be back next season. There is no way Haley can get rid of two solid young safeties in the same season. He is reported to like Page, so I would expect him back.
Leonard Pope* TE RFA - Tight End is a problem for the Chiefs. We all know that we will likely never see another TE like the Former Chiefs Player That Shall Remain Nameless, and most certainly Pope is not the answer. He is another of those 22 players of the street that Haley brought in here, and likely will be back on the street after this season.
Sean Ryan TE UFA - Another Tight End that was not the answer. He will not likely be back, one of the 22 off the street and has not been all that instrumental for the Chiefs.
Wade Smith OT UFA - Another of the 22 off the street. Smith might make it back to the roster this season, and I think he should, but if he does it will be at a backup position as I see Guard being one of the key areas that the Chiefs will be drafting for this season.
Kolby Smith RB RFA - I don't expect to see Kolby back next season. He has been too injury prone and will likely be looking for a new job next year.
Mike Vrabel OLB UFA - Mike has stated publicly that he would like to come back to the Chiefs and I think he will come back. Pioli likes Vrabel and he can be a leader to a younger linebacker squad for a couple more years.
Bobby Wade WR UFA - Wade will be shown the door. I do not expect to see him back.

I agree, Pretty accurate. I think the key to what happens with the OL is Brian Waters. If he still wants out then moving Albert to LOG makes logical sense. That in turn means we draft Okung at #1. Replacing starters at RG, RT and OC is a must. Going to NFL.com and looking at the stats the middle and right side of the OL are the weakest point of a OL rated as 28th in the NFL. I hate to see DJ go. If he could only learn to be in position to make plays on a consistant basis he could be a great LB.

Out of all those players these are the ones i would try to sign; 1) Chambers. might need a another wr if clarkie gets cheap(er) and dosen`t sign one. 2) Niswanger. Why? Move to RG were he belongs anyway.Sign a FA or go for the best center in the draft. 3) Page. To go with the new saftey we are going to get. FA or draft. 4) Smith. He`s proven tobe a average backup that can play gaurd or tackle. Or atleast fake it better than the starters. 5) Vrabel. But only as a backup to Studabaker. Let the kid play.

No Vrabel will never come back as a backup, he is going to want to be a starter.
