Increasingly, I have been excited about Coach Haley. I will admit that last year I hated him as a coach, I felt he did not have the experience and when he fired Chan Gailey right before the start of the season I was mortified.

I have to say this year I have been warming up to the man. When he hired Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis, I immediately started to rethink my position on the man. Lately, I have seen other things that have made me come on board with him even more. The latest news out of KC only goes to enforce my positive opinion of the man.

There is the obvious items that we have all seen, the more calm and collected demeanor and the increase in the aggressive play calling, but that is not what has me most excited. No, it is this concept of "player coaches".

According to Haley, the idea here is to get the veteran players more involved in the communication with the team. He gave them many of the same privileges that coaches get, they got different binders of information and got to go head to head against each other in scrimmage games.

Why is this a good idea? Well veterans are those guys that have additional information and lots of football knowledge to pass on to other players. Coaches can tell players what they are doing wrong and how to play in specific areas, but other players have more recent relevant game experience and tactics to pass on to the younger players, and as we all know, this team is still very young.

It also gets these veteran players on board with the system. Most I would expect are on, but each have their own opinion on what may be working and what the talents of the players around them are. I know how they feel being a veteran at my job, I feel there are times when management is not using some of the employees around my to their fullest potential. This is their opportunity to prove their points. In the end, either the coaches are gong to learn something more about the players, or these veteran player's assumptions will be put to rest, either way it can only be good for the team.

Apparently today Coach Waters and Coach Vrabel faced off against each other and Coach Waters came up the winner.

All in all, I am really impressed with what Haley came up with here, if this has been done with other teams around the league, I have never heard of it. This shows me that Haley is secure enough in what he knows and wants from this team that he is willing to be as aggressive in his coaching style as he is with his play calling and game planning.

Put me officially in the column of a Haley supporter!

I, too, am a Haley Supporter!

Contrast his current style with that of Herm Edwards. Edwards, seemed to to be too busy being buddies with certain players (i.e. LJ) to be the Head Coach. On the sidelines at the games Edwards showed absolutely zero emotion at all; win, lose or draw there was absolutely no fire in his belly, so to speak. He was completely emotionless IMHO.

I like the way Haley is starting to go for the throat. Thats one thing i liked about dickies offense is they were always in the attack mode.
Hermie was always in the , loser mode. one point lead with 10 minutes left, kill the clock. Vermil mode was 10 minutes left, shot, theres time for 50 more points.
Hiring weis will start to pay off once the offense starts to learn his way.
Hiring romeo was a gods gift to this defense.

I can say that I never liked Edwards from the start. Haley, I didn't like either. As I said above, I never felt that Haley had the experience we needed for a head coach.

I admit now, he is turning the team around. He has his temper under control a little better (of course, we are winning now) and was really smart to get some great assistance around him.

After Herm Edwards anyone not named Herm would be fine with me as the head coach. But I love what I am seeing out of Haley. He is the opposite from Herm in just about every way. He has been MUCH better then what he was in his 1st season a year ago. That to me is a great sign. I hope and think that we have our LONG term coach. And that is something that we have not seen in a long time. I think we are only going to see him get better as a head coach. Maybe he will even get a ring or to in KC. :chieflogo:

That works for me! I think Herm Munster would have been a better head coach then Herm Edwards. :D
