Over and over again I see pundits and fans screaming that you have to get the ball into the hands of Charles. Or that Charles is not getting enough touches. It always seems to be phrased in the form of a question, like "Why aren't we seeing Charles carry the ball 50 times a game?"

If you ever needed a more clear answer to this question, look no further than Sundays' Chiefs-Rams game. On two different plays we were left wondering for a few minutes about Charles' condition. Luckily it seemed that in both situations, the injury was minor, but it goes to drive home a point that Charles and McCluster are just not running backs who can take the abuse.

That is not to say they are not tough guys, but rather they are just not the biggest guys on the field. Even the toughest of guys that are 5 foot 10 inches tall are going to find themselves injured when hit by a 6'44 250 pound linebacker running full speed.

I really like the tandem attack of Jones and Charles. Jones plays smash mouth football. Yes, I know Charles has a better average, but Jones' job is a little different. Yes, they want Jones to get yardage, but they also want Jones to deliver the punishment on the defensive players. He is out there to wear down the defense and make them NOT want to tackle anymore. Then when the defense is on its heals, Charles comes in and blasts out an 80 yard run.

This is a tactic most defenses have not had to ever deal with before, and one that is proving to be very effective for the Chiefs. instead of complaining about how many touches Charles is getting, lets get these guys even better at the one-two punch they have been showing so successful.

Charles needs to run the ball atleast 25 times a game. Most backs that i have read say they need to get that many to get the feel of the blocking and defense.
Yes, he was cramping sunday so 11 carries might have been the lucky number.
The one, sunday, that should have got the ball more was battle. On the games where we were having big leads, battle should have gotten the carries. Keeps both jones and charles healthy. Face it, we have been lucky on the injury bug to our backs. Dont know that you could call dex a true back anymore.
Battle is a batting ram and he has proven he can pick up some good yardage.
