I have to start by saying what an awesome night it was at Arrowhead last night. Having travelled 1,700 some miles to get to Kansas City AND having sat through two prior losses at home to the Raiders, it was incredible to be there last night.
I have not been to many Chiefs games, in fact, last night has my third game. I have heard about the fans and the noise level at Arrowhead, but I honestly had never experienced it first hand until last night. WOW, what a crowd!
I have watched many games on TV and I have heard announcers going on and on about how loud stadiums are, Arrowhead has always been considered one of the loudest, to the point of the mantra being "The 12th player". On TV you could hear the crowd, but you never really know just how loud it really is. Last night I got the taste of it, and now I know what they mean by the 12th player.
The stadium was rumbling. I personally was screaming as loud as I could and I could not hear the sound I was making. Which made me want to scream even more. There were multiple delay of game and offsides penalties on the Chargers and at least one time out because the sound level was so high River's could not function. When the crowd saw that he was getting heated and angry, the pressure of sound got even higher. By the last few plays in the end zone, when you would think that the crowd was winding down, the sound got the highest of all.
Aside from the effect that it had on the Charger's offense, I know it had to effect the defensive players on the field. The entire stadium was electric, the energy was contagious, I even saw Chargers fans screaming and cheering for the Chief's goal line stops, at least that is what I am going to say anyway. Speaking for myself, I can say that I left everything on the field. I screamed so loud and so hard that my stomach muscles hurt and my voice is completely gone! I could hardly make more than a whisper all day today.
Having experienced this in person, I came home and watched the game I had DVRed and saw just what the effect is. The announcers were even having a hard time being heard over the sound of the stadium on the broadcast. I can honestly say that this was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had. I hope every Chief's fan gets to experience Arrowhead in its full majesty as I did last night.
Now time for San Francisco, and I will be at that game as well, I hope the same crowd comes back to the game, and once again, I will leave everything I have on the field!
