White America

First off just let me say that I am a forty-six year old Euro-American whose generation alone has seen enough racial injustice to last two lifetimes. I do not condone nor do I propagate such hateful activity. It is true that more than likely my direct ancestors owned, mistreated and dehumanized people of “color” in the days of slavery. I am appalled that through some sick twisted mindset slavery and other racial injustices were somehow justified simply as part of normal everyday life; that the law of the land actually made provision for the horrid treatment of fellow human beings. I, as do many others like me, believe the fact that until the latter half of the twentieth century citizens of color where treated as less then second class and is a shameful plight on this nation’s recent history.
I trust that the above statement adequately describes my personal feelings regarding hate and injustice of any race. Having thus said, I wish to state a concern that I have of another such prevailing attitude; one propagated by President Obama’s new “Green Jobs” Czar advisor Van Jones whose open hateful contempt of “White” America is truly disturbing. Should I, as a “white” male, stand in a public arena and spout off the same kind of stereotypical drivel about people of racial diversity that Mr. Jones has recently been caught on camera in his public speaking engagements referring to “White” individuals in general I will have been branded a racist and most likely arrested for having committed a hate crime.
When does the finger pointing stop? At what point do we as a global society and of a nation of people made up of that global society say ENOUGH! Every single race belonging to their respective country of origin has at some point in that country’s history been guilty of the same kind of racial atrocities mentioned above. Yet, it is the current generation of “White” America that is to blame for our country’s and world’s economic, social and environmental woes. It is “White” America, according to Van Jones, that is systematically poisoning the poor and downtrodden minorities of diverse racial backgrounds in their communities. I’m reminded of yet another one of the world’s historic European national leaders who felt that the Jews were to blame for all that was wrong, and President Obama sees no problem with appointing a top political advisor with this very mindset. What a dangerous line of thinking this is; the kind of thinking that gave rise to such groups as the KKK. Now most intelligent thinking Americans can see this sect for who and what they are; yet Van Jones is hailed as a free thinking voice of reason, tolerance and a defender of racial justice and equality. This would be akin to former President Bush appointing David Duke to a high ranking cabinet post for domestic social policy.
In closing I leave you, the reader, with this one thought: a society that does not learn from its mistakes is doomed to repeat them.
